07-Dec-10 21:44 : Thanks for Visiting with us, Kevin Gregory and Channel RTV6!
IBC students, faculty and staff, had a lot of fun collecting new, unwrapped gifts for Channel RTV6's 2010 Toy Drive, and presenting them to Kevin Gregory and the RTV 6 Crew on December 4th. Kevin and his team came to the studios on a snowy day while IBC dancers were in the middle of rehearsals for their upcoming production of The Nutcracker. Rehearsals went with a little extra sparkle that day, knowing that the cameras were rolling.
Thanks to all for the wonderful team spirit and desire to help kids throughout Central Indiana through the collection of these gifts.
Tune in to the segment on Thursday, December 9th, at 5:00 p.m.
Happy Holidays!
05-Dec-10 09:26 : Ghosts of Christmas Past Bearing Free Tickets to the Nutcracker
Ghosts of Christmas Past Bearing Free Tickets to the Nutcracker
‘Tis the season to dig deep down and rediscover all those moments buried inside us - the ghosts of Christmas past - that individually and collectively express humanity at its very best. Yes, we are all too familiar with the rampant commercialism that drives most of the frenzy this time of year. But, despite our often jaded perspective of the holidays, it is hard to completely ignore a kind of magic that accompanies them that manages to persist and permeate the seasonal insanity, and speaks of a deep and abiding belief in the existence, somewhere, of the good, the true and the beautiful.
Here at the Indiana Ballet Conservatory (IBC) we are extremely proud of our particular recreation of the traditional Vainonen version of The Nutcracker, with its emphasis on the transforming power that simple kindness, compassion and courage can bring. It’s a message that we feel is worth sharing with everyone, including six hundred children and families who may be having a particularly hard time feeling that magic this year. We hope that we can share this message with some of you, as we attempt to express some of that ‘magic’ through the language we love most, as our own gift to the community.
Therefore, IBC is throwing out a challenge to you all to describe your own holiday experiences that allowed you, even if only for a moment, to get a glimpse of the world as a warmer, more beautiful place. We aren’t necessarily looking for the most heroic or impressive tales, but for the most genuine – the deep buried memories most of us possess from holidays past that have warmed our souls. Whether that happened while baking cookies with grandma, or securing peace for a third world nation, we would like to hear about it. We will feature the best entries on our website and award the winner(s) two free tickets to our performance of The Nutcracker, December 17th -19th (exact performance date subject to ticket availability but we will try hard to honor specific requests).
For more information on the performance visit www.IndianaBalletConservatory.org or call 866-398-4NUT. The winners will be revealed at 9:00 p.m. Wednesday, December 15th. Please send submissions to contact@IndianaBalletConservatory.org, and we will notify the winners by email.
Good luck, and may this season be memorable for you.
