Notes from Vaganova
Our Artistic Director, Alyona Yakovleva, recently visited the Vaganova Academy in St. Petersburg, Russia, to meet with the world-renowned Academy's Director and to attend seminars on the Vaganova method. These were the notes and pictures she brought back to share:
The seminars were great and very helpful, and my meeting with the director of the Vaganova Ballet Academy was very productive. She is looking forward to potential future relationships between our two schools, as am I.
In addition, while I was there I was encouraged to take the exam to be considered for receiving a Masters Degree in Choreography, but the exam was scheduled to take place after I had already left. I left some materials of my choreography behind though, and to my delight, I was informed that I was one of a select group of people chosen for this honor from many applicants around the world. They even went as far as to create a special case for me personally, so that I would be able to do everything by correspondence and only have to visit once or twice during the semester.
This is essentially the highest degree level attainable from the Vaganova Ballet Academy, and could really, in my opinion, bring such good international recognition to the school, and could open up so many phenomenal contacts. It would be wonderful to take advantage of this opportunity, I believe.
